Biography

Tamara Karr serves as the Director of the Architecture Resource Center (ARC), a specialized branch of the James White Library at Andrews University. Prior to this role, she spent five years at the Center for Adventist Research, where she served as the Collection Associate. In that position, she managed a diverse collection of more than 1,400 multilingual periodicals spanning a wide range of disciplines, and provided research support to both visiting and remote scholars.

Tamara holds degrees from Andrews University (B.S., 2003), Plymouth State University (M.A.T., 2008), and Wayne State University, where she earned a Master of Library and Information Science in 2021. As part of her graduate studies, she completed a professional internship at the Studebaker National Museum, gaining valuable experience in museum archives and collections.

Before joining Andrews University, Tamara taught high school-level courses in Art, Art History, Digital Photography, Photoshop, and Desktop Publishing in Taipei, Taiwan, where she served for two years.

Tamara brings to her current role a strong commitment to service, as well as a rich blend of creativity, collaboration, and technical expertise. Her interests extend beyond librarianship to include outdoor exploration—she is an avid hiker and mountain biking enthusiast—as well as quiet moments enjoying tea, chocolate, and British television.

She maintains professional affiliations with Environmental Design Research Association (EDRA), where she continues to explore her passion for environmental and architectural design. She enjoys participating in EDRA’s conferences and is eager to collaborate with students and faculty from the School of Architecture and Interior Design on interdisciplinary research that intersects the arts, architecture, and environmental studies. Tamara is committed to fostering a welcoming and supportive atmosphere at the ARC.
