Abstract

The sanctuary motif (that includes tabernacle, temple, staff, utensils, the associated actions and its functions) plays a significant role in the Hebrew Bible and, in an apparently lesser grade, in the New Testament. Although Adventist theologians and biblical scholars made significant progress trying to understand this motif and its global relevancy for the Adventist theology, it has given little attention to the general ritual system that is behind the earthly sanctuary and it could show light upon the important connections between earth and heaven. This study aims to offer an introduction to the importance of understanding the ritual, within the sanctuary context, and tries to bring out the outstanding link between ritual and theology that concerns the sanctuary doctrine (or motif).
