Abstract

Twice on Resurrection Sunday Jesus insisted on a vital hermeneutic for rightly understanding Scripture: that, starting with Moses, it was all about Him (Luke 24:25–27, 44–45). Thereby, He reinforced Messianic indicators in the Old Testament narratives. The Genesis narratives are especially rich. Many have seen Joseph as a type of Christ in the Genesis narratives, but Judah has not fared so well. Through a close reading of the text, this paper will study how the Gen 37–50 narratives of both Joseph and Judah are shaped as Messianic types.
