Theoretical psychology, yes: Methodological egalitarianism, no!

Comments on the article by B. D. Slife and R. N. Williams (see record 84-17550) concerning theoretical psychology as a new subdiscipline of psychology. It is believed that Slife and Williams may have confused postmodernism with theoretical development and relied too heavily on their critique of positivism and a consequent embrace of postmodern criticism. A theoretical focus does need to be formally recognized, but an emphasis on theory need not reject positivism nor embrace postmodernism to function adequately as a subdiscipline.
